United States: Federal health officials are investigating a possible death and multiple illnesses linked to “microdosing” candies containing a mushroom chemical. These candies, sold online and in vape shops nationwide, are from the Diamond Shruumz brand.

Reports of Sickness Across 24 States

As reported in U.S. News, at least 48 people in 24 states fell ill after consuming Diamond Shruumz products, including chocolate bars, cones, and gummies, according to the FDA. One death is potentially connected to this outbreak, and 27 people have been hospitalized with symptoms like seizures, agitation, abnormal heart rates, and loss of consciousness.

Recall and Investigation

Prophet Premium Blends LLC of Santa Ana, California, recalled all Diamond Shruumz products due to the presence of muscimol, a psychoactive chemical found in potentially toxic Amanita mushrooms. These products, marketed for microdosing, are supposed to offer benefits with minimal side effects.

Public Health Advisory

The FDA, CDC, and America’s Poison Centers are probing the outbreak. People who have these products should stop using them incontinently. Anyone passing illness after using these products should communicate a healthcare provider or a bane center at 1-800-222-1222.
