United States: In December there are like over 300 people got sick with norovirus on three different cruise ships, according to new government data and this is the only month in this year when the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has already reported three outbreaks of norovirus on cruise ships. A total of 301 passengers and also some of the crew members became ill during these outbreaks.

‘CDC has noted that it can be difficult to prevent and control the spread of Norovirus on cruise ships due for the closely located rooms and access to food; plus, short stay of passengers.’ “In contaminated food and water onshore when the ship is docking, norovirus can be shipped in; passengers who were infected ashore.”

As reported by the HealthDay, Passengers aboard Princess Cruises Ruby Princess trip around Hawaii’s island, and Holland America’s Rotterdam and Zuiderdam tours in Caribbean had mostly symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting.

The latest outbreak struck Holland America’s Rotterdam ships and was set to conclude in its Caribbean voyage Friday in Fort Lauderdale.

Surgeons of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention impelled that 83 of the 2,192 passengers and 12 of the 953 members of the crew had been infected just from this vessel.

Safety and wellness of all passengers and employees comes as topmost priority in service of Holland America Line. Some of the guests aboard Rotterdam during the current voyage complained of gastrointestinal illness,” a Holland America spokesperson told CBS News. “The cases have been mostly mild and depart shortly.”

There was cleaning and disinfection in addition to all passengers and crew members who developed symptoms were quarantined.

After arriving in Fort Lauderdale, the Rotterdam ship will be deep cleaned prior to its next journey, according to the cruise line to CBS News.

That was only one of the three norovirus outbreaks on ships this month.

There was also a norovirus outbreak on Holland America’s Zuiderdam voyage earlier this month. Out of 1,923 passengers, 87 were complaining of flu on that trip made between Dec. 4 and Dec. 11, while four of the 757 crew members.

For instance, Princess Cruises also experienced a norovirus outbreak this month on Ruby Princess that steamed from San Francisco Dec 2, toured Hawaii and completed the trip this Wednesday.
