United States: As we all like having coffee but it contains a huge amount of caffeine in it, which has been associated with the reduced risk of developing Parkinson’s disease, though there is a study which shows that the coffee jolt might not be good for the people who are facing the mental health issues and diagnosed with some kind of brain disorders.
Impact on Brain Chemistry
Researchers recently reported that in caffeine appears to blunt the brain’s ability to use dopamine and it also affects the hormones which lies at the heart of the Parkinson’s symptoms, written in the journal Annals of Neurology.
The data indicate that patients who consumed higher amounts of caffeine saw an 8% to 15% greater loss in dopamine’s ability to interact with brain receptors than those who consumed less of the stimulant.
Study Insights
Principal researcher Valtteri Kaasinen, a professor of neurology at the University of Turku in Finland, said, “Our study suggests that high caffeine intake has no benefit on the dopamine systems in already diagnosed patients, even though caffeine may offer certain benefits in reducing risk of Parkinson’s disease.”
In a university news release, Kaasinen stated, “A high caffeine intake did not result in reduced symptoms of the disease, such as improved motor function.”
Parkinson’s Disease Mechanisms
Parkinson’s disease develops when nerve cells that make dopamine in the brain begin to degenerate.
The movement issues linked to the condition, such as tremors, muscle stiffness, and poor balance and coordination, are ultimately brought on by low dopamine levels.
Research Methodology
In this study, 40 healthy individuals and 163 Parkinson’s sufferers in the early stages had their brains scanned. Their individual intake of caffeine was compared to variations in dopamine patterns observed in their brains during the scans.
Call to Action
The researchers concluded that it is unlikely that increased caffeine use is the cause of the loss in dopamine function.
Rather, This reduction in the dopamine is binding something that happens when anyone uses caffeine or other stimulants they added.
