United States: A mother from Utah received a diagnosis of a terminal illness with three months in which she as a result planned her funeral.
In her GoFundMe campaign, Erika Diarte-Carr, 30, has said that she has had small-cell lung carcinoma that has been diagnosed two years ago, and doctors said that she has terminal cancer.
According to the 18 September oncologist appointment, she stopped receiving treatments since the physician informed her they “would no longer assist.” The doctors informed her that the worst case scenario was that she had three months to live.
As reported by Independent, she said, “3 months to spend with my babies and loved ones, 3 months to make the best of what time I have left.” Indeed it does: ‘During these next couple of months I need to make sure my kids will be ok after I am gone,’. This was most difficult for me now and ordering my own funeral.”
Her campaign was to raise USD 5000 to cater for her future funeral service but the shock of her life over 30000 people have contributed USD 900000 for her cause.
As of 29 September, the mother of two revealed that she planned on putting the majority of these donations in a trust fund for her two children: Jeremiah, 7, and Aaliyah, 5. In the campaign’s description, she referred to her children as her “whole life, light and soul … and reason to live.”
She also extend her thanks to her ‘’incredible medical team ‘’ with special mention to Carl Gray and Kylie Money of Ogden Hematology Oncology, Steven Brown Tanner Clinic and Brandon Fisher.
“It happened overnight. It came as a surprise to me,” she said to ABC News. “I never thought it would be a large funeral, or many other people reaching out and assisting me.”
Back on the year in the month of May, 2022 the single mother walked into an emergency room sporting a normal shoulder injury and only to find out that day that she had cancer, Since then, she noted that the doctor’s words of the warning this treatment and she wrote that the doctor told her and “I hope you have a good support system at home because you’re going to need it and you have a long and really very hard distance and the journey ahead of you.”
That particular doctor than proceeded to tell me that there were multiple tumors that had metastasized to the other parts of my body including my skeletal which is how we were able to find the tumor that was causing my shoulder pain,” Erika continued. “By that point the damage had already been done and in that particular moment mine and my kids’ entire lives had changed as well as all of those around us.”
